The project involved designing a title sequence for a chosen literary work, and my choice was instinctively drawn toward the writings of Sadegh Hedayat. Celebrated for his early embrace of literary modernism in Iran, Hedayat’s “Buried Alive” stood out.

This profound short story dives deep into the diary of a man wrestling with the haunting thoughts of suicide. The story’s shadowy undertones and recurring theme of mortality intrigued me, and I chose sand as a medium for my preliminary design sketches. Later, I used Procreate on my iPad to create detailed cell animations. During this process, I decided to incorporate a real-life element into my design, so I filmed a friend enacting poses that resonated with the narrative’s essence.

I merged hand-drawn animations, real video footage, and dynamic motion graphics in After Effects in the final stages. This exciting project presented me with creative challenges, blending diverse mediums to echo a timeless tale.
